Volleyball Setting Skills
Setters, here are some questions to ask about the sport of volleyball, and specifically, the position of a setter. Remember when you make goals, be sure that they are things that you can control.
Physical Skills
1. What do you think is your best set?
2. What set are you going to work on developing this season?
3. What is your best physical attribute?
4. What one thing do you want to work on physically?
Setter Cue Words!
- Ready position
- Right foot slightly in front of left
- Body at a 45 degree angle to the court
- Knees slightly bent
- Weight equally distributed (balanced)
- Ready to move
- Footwork
- First step ALWAYS with left foot
- Get all the way to the net and then make a move away from net (depending on location of pass)
- Square off
- Feet to ball, body will follow
- Contact
- Hands above forehead
- Big hands
- Cushion the ball (soft hands)
- Head and hands move together
- Finish
- Follow thru (superwoman)
- Both hands should look the same (fingers and wrists straight)
- Toes facing left front (squared off approximately two feet off net)
- Ball location?
- Inside
- Outside Low
- High v. Tight
- Off
- Perfect!
